Father Thomas Dubay, S.M., was a well-known retreat master and highly respected author of books on the spiritual life. He had spent the last 30 years or so giving retreats and writing on the spiritual life, on which he had written some 20 books. He was considered an expert on the teaching of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross.
A 1939 graduate of De La Salle High School he subsequently entered the minor seminary of the Marist Fathers at South Langhorne, PA and after his novitiate made his Marist profession on September 8, 1944. His philosophy and theology years were spent at Marist College, Washington, D.C. Marist Bishop Michael Keyes ordained him to the priesthood on June 8, 1950. Father Dubay received both a master’s and a doctorate in Education from The Catholic University of America. An internationally recognized spiritual director and a prolific author, he wrote articles in more than a dozen journals and periodicals and well over two dozen books. He assisted a number of Sisters congregations in rewriting their constitutions, and gave retreats in the USA and overseas.
